Iraq, Iran and North Korea…..the axis of evil.

Those were the words of President George Bush many, many months ago.

At the time he came under heavy criticism for using the term, but events have proven him absolutely correct.

First it was Saddam Hussein and the possible threat that he posed.

A number of sources reported he had weapons of mass destruction which most interpret as nuclear weapons although a number of gases also qualify as weapons that could produce mass destruction.

Then with our forces deeply involved in Iraq, we have the threat of Iran to construct nuclear weapons, and also the threat of North Korea to also produce nuclear weapons.

All three pose a threat to the Pacific Rim area including western United States.

Certainly we cannot contemplate a military effort in Iran or North Korea while our military is occupied in Iraq.  So what other measures can we utilize to meet these nuclear threats.

That’s the gigantic problem facing the Bush Administration...and thusly the future safety of the United States.

There’s talk of sanctions by the United Nations, but it remains to be seen whether it’s more bluster than action at the U.N.   Thus far Russia and china have blocked any action against Iran and may do the same against North Korea.

There is talk of a naval blockade of North Korea that permits the inspection of all ships leaving North Korea to determine if any nuclear parts are being sent to other countries or to other groups of terrorists.

Currently we have a missile defense system set up in Hawaii that is capable of intercepting any ballistic missile sent toward the United States.

Perhaps it is time that we warned both Iran and North Korea that any missile detected that appears to be headed for the mainland or Hawaii or Alaska will bring an instant nuclear attack against the country from which the missile came.

With today’s technology it’s possible to immediately detect such a missile and determine where it was launched.

Nations such as Syria, Iran, North Korea and others should be so warned that if a missile is launched by terrorists that area will be hit in a counter attack.

We should also share our missile defense system with such allies as Japan, Australia, New Zealand and others.

The other nuclear threat may come from terrorists smuggling small nuclear bombs into our country itself.   Our other priority must be to close our borders except for certified checkpoints and require radiation checks on virtually all vehicles crossing our border.

These certainly are some of the actions being contemplated by the administration to counter these latest plans of the axis of evil...as we now know them.
