What’s happened to my country

Our young men and women are battling the enemy in Iraq, laying down their lives for their country, and their country is deserting them.

Is politics more important than the future of our nation?

That appears to be the case.

All we hear is bring the troops home…..stop the fighting….give up ….again.

This is not the America that I knew when I was among the millions overseas in World War Two….battling the Germans on one front and the Japanese on another.

That was an America united in a desperate war to preserve our way of life and liberty. The Germans and the Japanese were certainly a threat to our way of life…..but so, today, are the terrorists as well as other nations such as Iran, Syria, yes….and even nations in our own hemisphere such as Columbia, Ecuador, and others to our South.

We have North Korea with its nuclear threat, Iran trying to also gain nuclear ability…..both shouting death to the United States. We have the Iranian leader flying around South America trying to enlist other nations in his avowed “death to America” campaign.

Yet…..here at home…..not only in all the liberal media...but in the very halls of Congress we have those threatening to cut off all funds for the military…..taking issue with the President, the Commander in Chief, on what tactics to use to secure victory in Iraq.

All we hear is “cut and run” “get out” …. And then what?

How far have we fallen from the nation that triumphed over the German s and the Japanese...and emerged as the only superpower in the world?

Certainly….the sectarian violence in Iraq is taking a terrible toll on not only our young men and women, but also on the Iraqis themselves.

Do we now desert them….as we did in Vietnam…..to be followed by by another blood bath such as happened there?

It’s almost impossible for this old veteran to understand where my country has gone.

Perhaps it is in the end days….when all previous superpowers...like England, Spain, France and the Romans vanished into the pages of history, because they were defeated not from an outside enemy, but from within.

If the critics have their way…...America is heading to another defeat that may well result in an even greater disaster.

Yes…..I wonder what has happened to my America…..I don’t recognize it any more.
